During a Partial Shoulder Replacement or Shoulder Hemiarthroplasty surgery, the damaged humeral head is removed and replaced with a metal stem that is placed into the hollow center of the humerus. The humeral stem may be either cemented or “press fit” into the bone. A metal ball is placed on the upper part of the stem. This ball replaces the damaged humeral head that was removed. Now your shoulder joint moves in a normal way.
Depends on the age, quality of bone. In young age with good bone quality un-cemented humeral component used and fixed by press-fit with bone grafting harvested from the removed humeral head. In elderly cemented humeral stem is used which was fixed with cement.
Pendulum and gentle mobilization exercises will be started immediately after the surgery.
At 6 weeks most people with sedentary employment can return to work. You can do your regular day to day activities.
At 3 months u can completely resume all your activities including sports and heavy work.
